Guiding principles for primary prevention of family violence and violence against women in the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

The Coronavirus pandemic changed how we live. Periods of lockdown, employment instability and physical distancing measures put pressure on families. Sadly, family violence response services noted a surge in demand throughout the pandemic.

In consultation with colleagues from the family violence prevention and response sectors, Respect Victoria developed six guiding principles to maintain focus on preventing violence before it starts. These principles will help prepare our work for future disasters and inform how we "build back better" communities in recovery.
